The Equal Rights Trust is an independent international organisation, whose purpose is to combat discrimination and promote equality as a fundamental human right and a basic principle of social justice. The Trust is funded by multiple sources and employs around 10 staff.
The Trust seeks to appoint a Head of Finance and Administration to take responsibility for the overall strategic planning and management of its finance and to oversee its administration. The position reports to the Executive Director and is based in London.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic planning of the Trust’s funding, forward long- and medium-term budgeting, and financial sustainability;
- Preparing general organisational and project budgets as well as cash flow forecasts.
- Preparing management and spending reports and other financial documents for the Executive Director, project coordinators, the Board, its subcommittees, and for funders;
- Producing budgets for the Trust’s projects and spreadsheets reconciling the allocation of staff time and funds with both general budgets and project budgets of varying start dates and durations;
- Preparing end of year accounts and cooperating with external auditors;
- Supervising the book-keeping, paying office bills and liaising with bankers and accountants;
- Developing and improving office policies and procedures, and supervising the implementation of administrative and financial manuals;
- Dealing with all office management-related matters;
- Dealing with contractors and service providers to ensure the efficient running of the office and its IT and other equipment;
- Managing all aspects of human resources according to the Trust’s established policies and procedures;
- Oversee payroll and pension processing ensuring compliance with any relevant legislation and maintain contacts with external providers;
- Developing new administrative and financial policies as needed.
- Supervising two financial and administrative assistants.
Required:
- Either ACCA or CIMA qualified (part qualified, finalists and QBE will be considered);
- Excellent budgeting and financial reporting skills, in a setting similar to that of an international charity based in the UK;
- Experience in financial management of UK-based charities with annual turnover of a minimum of £0,5mln;
- Demonstrable experience of financial reporting.
- Experience with the financial aspects of grant management in a non-profit organisation;
- Understanding of and experience in human resources;
- A good grasp of all aspects of the administration of UK-based charities;
- Ability to multi-task and work flexibly with a can-do attitude;
- Ability to work in a small team with minimal administrative assistance;
- Attention to detail and punctuality;
- Commitment to human rights and equality.
- Strongly preferred:
- Experience of using computerised accounting systems (Experience of working with QuickBooks is an advantage).
- Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the SORP accounting standards for charity accounts and of the requirements of company financial reporting.
- Experience of project budget preparation and financial reporting for large statutory and institutional donors (e.g. European Union, SIDA, Comic Relief).
Salary range: £37,000 – £46,000 p.a.
